Shoot/Get Treasure/Repeat

A selection from Ravenhill’s provocative cycle exploring the personal and political consequences of war in contemporary life.
For this production, I designed a flexible environment using large suspended sheets of translucent PVC. The translucent screens defined each story’s unique space, while also functioning as surfaces for projection and lighting. Their movement across the set enabled fluid scene transitions and a dramatic kabuki drop, enhancing the emotional and visual impact of the performance.Directed by Shane AnthonySet &#38;amp; Costume Design by Lucy McCulloughLighting Design by Richard WhitehousePhotography by Patrick Boland

This project set out to explore what makes up our storyworlds and the phenomenon of Narrative Transportation — the feeling of being lost in a story — and how it might be useful in collaborative and co-design practices. How could encountering the storyworlds of others make us more expansive, more inclusive practitioners?Visitors to the bookshop were invited to sit and read the story themselves before exploring the contributions, encountering the same story through radically different imaginative lenses. I chose the bookshop setting deliberately: a space already inhabited by storytellers and readers, where the proposition felt native rather than imposed.Outcome: An exhibition that made the usually invisible act of narrative imagination visible and shareable — opening a conversation about how diverse perspectives can expand the possibilities of collaborative and inclusive narrative practice.

	Research shows that stories are important for social change. They influence our real-world beliefs. However, when working with narratives in creative practice, we are often limited by our psychology and prior experiences. Exploring and considering the storyworlds of others — collaborative colleagues and potential audiences — could hold insights into how we can be more effective and inclusive as storytellers, creating positive change in the world through more inclusive stories.

Brief: Display nearly 100 rarely seen artists’ books from the State Library’s collection—works ranging from 5 centimetres to 40 metres, by artists including Ed Ruscha, Judy Watson, and Bill Henson—across five thematic sections: Art, Nature, Civil, Identity, and Perception. The curator wanted the sections to feel connected and continuous rather than discrete.

Response: Artist books are notoriously difficult to display; they are objects designed to be held, turned, and explored. Placed under glass, they lose the quality that makes them what they are. My design response was to compensate spatially. 
I created a maze-like environment to feel as tactile, interactive, and exploratory as possible. Built from semi-translucent screens made of Tyvek (a material that gives the feel of paper but with the strength to last a long-term public installation), each section was colour-coded to carry the curator’s thematic logic through the space while keeping transitions fluid. To evoke a sense of exploration and discovery, books were hidden within wall cavities and in small corner spaces. To allow for viewing of additional pages—when there were too many highlights to choose—I incorporated openable drawers, interactive screens, and seating benches for contemplating larger or emotionally impactful works.

Directional walls, subtly influencing visitor flow, were constructed from woven strips of SaveBoard (a sustainable material made from compressed, upcycled packaging), with exposed cut edges adding texture. While I had hoped to use this material more extensively, its application was limited following a collection care review of potential offgassing risks near the artworks.

A concertina wall led visitors down the hallway to the exhibition, and a makerspace for creating personal artist books was set up in the previously unused space past the entrance.

Outcome: An immersive, navigable environment that translated the tactile logic of the artist book form into a spatial experience—inviting the kind of slow, exploratory attention the works themselves demand.

The Objects Gallery — State Library of NSWA display of nearly 1,000 objects from the Library's realia collection acquired over the past century. My role was to organise and design the installation of objects into the prebuilt cases in a coherent way. “A tribute to the unique creative talent of Sydney artist Peter Kingston.” 
An exhibition to celebrate his lifelong dedication to art, Sydney Harbour, and environmental conservation. Featuring over 70 works — including prints, artist’s books, sketchbooks, printing plates, and photographs — the show presents a rich cross-section of Kingston’s career and passions.

As Exhibition Designer, I led the spatial and interpretive design of the exhibition, developing an environment that reflected both the humour and complexity of Peter’s work. The design was grounded in thorough research, including interviews with Peter’s friends and relatives and site visits to his Lavender Bay home. This immersive process allowed me to respond authentically to his life and creative world.

The design was heavily influenced by Peter’s love of historic Sydney, drawing inspiration from his&#38;nbsp;Wunderkabinett, on display at the Art Gallery of NSW library, and Peter’s house/studio, which informed the historic feel of the display cases. A custom-built central structure gave each of Peter’s prints its own space, allowing focus on the intricate detail and storytelling of each print. The internal space was clad in shiplap timber, referencing his favourite room at home and evoking the textures of ferries and harbourscapes that define his work.&#38;nbsp;&#38;nbsp;
